Friday Gratitudes

1. Wednesday morning I was thankful for Earl Pitts Umerikan on HI-99: "Next time you think about ordering a latte, just say no. It's a gateway drink...to a life of designer labels and overpriced kitchen utensils". Gave me a chuckle before I was even out of bed.

2. That same morning I'd already heard that we might get to a high of 68 that day. Come on spring!

3. And I'd already decided my theme for the day was going to be a poster I've seen for sale on Etsy: "Today I will be happier than a bird with a french fry".

4. I'm thankful that we're one step closer in what has become known as the "House Saga". Still months to go, but we're headed in the right direction.

5. We're so blessed by our parents. Mine gave us some unexpected, awesome, extremely helpful news this week related to the House Saga. One huge worry relieved.

6. I'm thankful for our deep freezer that allowed me to buy $104 worth of meat last Sunday because we were out and it was on sale (and I had coupons!).

7. I'm thankful for the coupons that saved me $20.05 off last week's grocery bill (and I've even missed several weeks worth of coupons!).

8. I’m thankful that my in-laws only live ½ mile down the road from us, and that by some magical stroke of luck Rodney was still at home Wednesday morning when I needed him to come let me in my own house (dang this wonderful spring weather, I forgot I hadn’t started my truck). Thanks Rodney!!

9. I'm thankful for the warm weather...Wednesday afternoon I changed into capris and flip flops and picked up rocks and sticks out of the yard. So nice!

10. I'm thankful for my birthday today!

26 Secrets

In honor of my birthday, which just so happens to be today, I thought I'd take after Elise and Cathy and post 26 secrets about myself at 26.

1. I rarely go clothes or shoe shopping anymore (like once every six months or so), but when I do I spend a fortune.

2. I have a dry erase calendar on the refrigerator at home, with a Shutterfly calendar of my pictures hanging right under it, I carry a little 2 year calendar in my purse, and I have a calendar set up in my work email.

3. I have an ongoing email I send to myself with things I think of at work that I want to get done when I get home. I think I have been doing this for about a year, just deleting stuff, adding new stuff, and re-sending it to myself.

4. I have an odd amount of nerdy love for Excel spreadsheets. I started one a few years ago to keep track of how quickly we could pay off my truck, and have continued to update it to see how quickly we could save for a house. I look at it at least once a week and I love it.

5. I love paperwork. Just about any kind of paperwork. At least once a month I hear about someone's job and tell Norm, "I think I'd like that job. Sounds like a lot of paperwork". Of course he thinks I'm ridiculous.

6. I recently heard they may try to make people pay for Facebook. That will be the day I close my Facebook account. I try not to get on Facebook more than once a week. It's just a time-sucker (is that really a term? did I just make that up?).

7. I can't wait to have children.

8. That's no secret.

9. I'm hoping the house part of the equation will put us one giant step closer.

10. So far I've wanted to put a smiley face behind every single statement. What is it about embarrassing statements about ourselves that makes us want to do that?

11. I fully plan to never live more than 5 miles from where I do right now. Unless we win the lottery, then I'm moving to Tahiti baby.

12. I despise my handwriting. To the point that I use fonts on my scrapbook pages that look like handwriting, just someone else's.

13. I'm halfway there. I thought this would be more difficult to write random stuff about myself. But hey, I am pretty random.

14. Sometimes I think I have an over-zealous sense of humor. Like I'm constantly laughing at stuff that other people don't find as funny. But I think that's a good thing. I like laughing. Laughing's my favorite.

15. Elf is one of my favorite movies of all time. Except I only watch the funniest parts, not the whole thing.

16. The Notebook is my all-time favorite movie. But I NEVER watch the end of it. I watch until they've reunited, then I'm done.

17. I'm pretty sure I overuse commas, on an everyday, basis.

18. I've taken a total of about 5 pictures in the last month and a half and I'm kind of loving the break.

19. I can't wait until it warms up and gets sunny and I can go take some pretty pictures.

20. I feel like I've got the best parents and in-laws in the world. Except when I was 15 or 16, I was pretty sure my parents were the enemy.

21. I spend more time on the internet than I'd like.

22. I've got a plan to change that.

23. My "To Read" shelf continues to grow and I haven't been making much progress on the two books I'm currently reading.

24. I feel like I've just broadcasted all my embarrassing secrets.

25. I typed all of this in about 10 minutes while eating breakfast and getting ready for work.

26. I was thinking I needed 27 secrets. I'm getting old, I can no longer remember how old I am (actually it's because last night I made the cover for my "27 Things to Do Before I Turn 27" book).
