Design Your Life: Week 7

The focus this week in my online scrapbooking class, Design Your Life, was emphasis and how to draw attention to the part of your scrapbook page that you want people to look at first.

Layout 1: Dave Ramsey Live
DYL Week 7

Another 11 x 8.5 single-page layout, but...shocker, this time I actually left it as one page. I did increase it to 12 x 12, but after this page in my printed Shutterfly book will be Cass and I's fall trip to Michigan, which will be more than 2 pages, so the first Michigan page will go opposite this page. Not how I normally like my pages to end up, but I'm accepting it as perfectly-imperfect and moving on.

Journaling Reads:
Yes, it’s totally blurry but I love this photo of Cass and I at Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover Live. Both of us in our scarves, handing my camera off to a stranger who offered to take our picture during the break. What a fun, nerdy, inspirational night! October 1, 2009

Layout 2: Indiana State Fair

DYL Week 7

So, I just have to say it...I'm totally in love with this layout. Like, weirdly in love with it. First, it has tons of photos, some of my favorite photos of the summer. Also, it's simple, and I'm definitely not an over-embellisher when it comes to my scrapbooking. But also, I love the story and it fit perfectly. I modified the template to make the photos larger and to give myself some major space for journaling. This is big for me, this much journaling. But I love the story, I still laugh out loud reading it back to myself, and I actually sat at the table and hand-wrote it out (something I learned from the Yesterday and Today class I took last fall: I have to hand-write my stories to make them feel like my "voice").

DYL Week 7

Journaling Reads:
I got up at 3am for these photos.
I got up at 3am, got ready, drove in the early-morning darkness to Cassandra’s house and walked up her steps...to find her house completely dark. I called her cell phone: RING, RING, RING... ”YOU’RE HERE AREN’T YOU?!”. She totally didn’t wake up. She let me in, rushed around getting ready, and we hurried off to the State Fairgrounds. As we were walking toward the infield, we saw a balloon in the air: ”OH NO!!”. We started running, and running, and running. We just made it to the infield as the rest of the balloons started lifting off one by one. So cool to see...and such a funny memory with my favorite cousin. :)

Layout 3: Eddie & Laura
DYL Week 7

This week's Real World Color layout was a one-page 11 x 8.5 layout, which I changed to a 12x12 two-page spread. The colors we were supposed to try to use were navy, turquoise, teal, cream, and orange. That was a lot of colors to fit on one page, but I did end up using them all except the navy. Then I picked my four favorite photos, added a title, date, and super short journaling, and called it good. Another memory scrapped!

Journaling Reads:
November 21, 2009. University of Indianapolis. Another wedding shot with Cass and Blaise.

Check back soon for the pics from Cass and I's trip to Michigan, and the crazy frost we've been having in central Indiana.

Friday Gratitudes

  1. I’m thankful that Cass and I were able to make it all the way to Michigan and back last weekend in the snowstorm with no issues. We saw about ten cars slid off the road in two miles on 65, but we went slow and had no problems.

  2. I’m grateful to Rodney and Linda Jo for our second great stay at the Rabbit Run Inn in Sawyer, Michigan. They are such nice people and great hosts. They really do think of everything you might want or need.

  3. I’m thankful for the wonderful relaxing time Cass and I had last weekend. We took pictures, watched movies, blogged, edited pictures, read, and talked until the wee hours of the morning. So nice to stay in a luxurious room and order food delivered and turn the heat up and drink Mt. Dew at 10pm and sleep in the next day and stand around in a hot shower and not have anything I had to do.

  4. I’m thankful that my husband was just down the road when I got home Monday night to find the corn stove out and that he wasn’t traveling. It was a little chilly, but he was there to get it running again.

  5. I’m so thankful for my 4-wheel drive truck. I saw several people off the road on the way to my hair appointment this week (include a state snow plow), and I never had a bit of trouble.

  6. I’m so excited about my Library of Memories class. The second week started yesterday and it is too cool!

  7. I’m thankful the snow has given us a break for a little while!

  8. I’m excited about some house news we got at Cheeseburger Night last night (but I’m trying not to get my hopes up too much!).

  9. I’m thankful that my hubby had a good birthday yesterday and was so excited to be headed to the farm show this morning.

  10. So grateful for the frost this morning…seriously, did you see it? A good inch of frost on everything at our house. 2 degrees outside and I wandered around the yard for 15 minutes taking pictures. So pretty.
